PEMILIHAN CALUN PERLU DILAKUKAN DENGAN SISTEMATIK - RAIS YATIM

Umno perlu tentukan calon untuk pilihan raya lebih awal, iaitu dua bulan sebelum sebarang pilihan raya umum, bagi memastikan calon yang dipilih benar-benar yang mampu menang, kata Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim. 

Beliau berkata selain itu, penentuan calon perlu dilakukan dengan sistematik dan mengikut lunas yang ditetapkan bagi memastikan mereka betul-betul layak untuk bertanding.

"Dalam menentukan calon mampu menang, pemimpin parti perlu menjelaskan kelayakan calon dan faktor yang perlu dipertimbangkan bukan hanya berdasarkan usia, tetapi juga produktiviti mereka, katanya kepada pemberita di pejabatnya di Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad di sini Isnin. 

Beliau berkata demikian apabila ditanya sama ada Umno perlu berubah dalam menghadapi cabaran abad ke-21. Rais juga berkata dengan menentukan calon lebih awal, ia dapat mengelakkan timbul masalah ketidak puasan pihak tertentu di saat-saat akhir. 

Beliau juga berkata pemilihan tidak sepatutnya berdasarkan pada usia sahaja, malah pertimbangan perlu diberikan kepada aspek produktiviti.

Sehari dua ini kita didatangi ramai suara-suara keciwa kerana tidak dilantik sebagai calun PRU13. Emosional, marah, geram dan dendam semua ada. Kalau mendengar hujah mereka hanya mereka sahajalah yang hebat dan kawan yang dilantik tidak layak atas bermacam-macam alasan.

Biasanya, apabila melihat diri kita lebih bijak, lebih cantik, lebih bahagia dan lebih sempurna dari orang lain, kita cenderung untuk merasa 'hebat', tinggi diri dan melihat orang lain jahil. Perasaan begitu sebenarnya adalah riak.

Sesungguhnya kehebatan bukan lah pakaian kita sebagai makhluk Allah swt kerana kita datang ke dunia ini tanpa seurat benang pun malah kulit dan tulang-tulang kita adalah pinjaman selama 30 tahun atau 50 tahun atau 60 tahun atau 70 tahun sahaja tempohnya dan semua ini akan hancur apabila kita mati. 

Mungkin mereka hebat hari ini, tapi tak semestinya mereka akan tetap hebat esoknya. Hidup ini penuh dengan kemungkinan dan berpusing seperti roda, kadangkala kita di atas, dan kadangkala di bawah.

BAHAN MISTERI DITEMUI DI BANGUNAN TENTERA LAUT AS

WASHINGTON 19 April - Satu bahan misteri ditemui di dalam bilik surat di bangunan Tentera Laut Amerika Syarikat (AS), berhampiran Washington semalam. Menurut kenyataan yang dikeluarkan oleh Pentagon, bahan misteri yang berbentuk serbuk putih itu ditemui di Pusat Sokongan Tentera Laut di Arlington, Virginia. 

Sehubungan itu, semua anggota tentera yang berada di dalam bangunan tersebut diarah keluar bagi mengelak sebarang kejadian tidak diingini. 

Sebelum ini, pihak berkuasa AS menerima dua pucuk surat berisi sejenis bahan kimia beracun yang dikenali sebagai 'ricin' yang ditujukan kepada Presiden Barack Obama dan Senator AS. - AFP

SUNGAI PETANI: A group of people here demonstrated Wednesday against Barisan Nasional's Sungai Petani candidate Dr Shamsul Anuar Ismail, calling for him to be replaced for the May 5 polls. 

Gathering near the Sungai Petani clock tower at 10:45am, they said Dr Shamsul was not known to the locals, adding this would affect voting patterns here. "We don't want a new face, we want Mrs Shahanim!" they shouted, referring to Puteri Umno deputy chief Shahanim Mohd Yusof. 

Leading the protest was Shahanim supporter Sohadah Yusof, who warned that Barisan would lose Sungai Petani if Dr Shamsul was fielded. 

"Nobody knows who Dr Shamsul is. 

"The people here really like Shahanim, so why do you want to bring in someone else?" she asked. 

Sohadah, who is also Sungai Petani Single Mothers and Orphans Association chairman, added that Shahanim was deeply popular amongst the town's women. 

She said it was not too late for Barisan chief Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to consider Shahanim as Sungai Petani MP candidate. 

"If not, I'm sure Barisan will lose votes here," she said. On Tuesday, Barisan Kedah announced Dr Shamsul among the 18 parliamentary candidates for the state in the general election.

ALOR SETAR BAKAL DIJADIKAN SEBUAH BANDARAYA METROPOLIS

ALOR SETAR: Bandaraya Alor Setar bakal dijadikan sebagai sebuah bandaraya metropilis yang menjadi tumpuan ilmuan melalui penubuhan sebuah universiti penyelidikan dan pembangunan tekonologi tinggi. 

Timbalan Pengerusi Barisan Nasional (BN) Kedah, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir berkata proses perubahan landskap pembangunan di ibu negeri Kedah ini akan dilaksanakan sekiranya parti itu diberi mandat untuk kembali memerintah kerajaan negeri. 

"Kita nak jadikan Alor Setar sebagai bandaraya metropolis yang mempunyai daya tarikan tersendiri melalui sebuah universiti. "BN mempunyai cadangan untuk bawa sebuah universiti teknologi tinggi tersohor dunia ke Kedah...bagaimanapun permintaan mereka ialah supaya ia diletakkan di dalam bandar. 

Jadi kita mahu bandaraya ini mempunyai imej metropolis," katanya pada sidang media selepas pelancaran Akujanji BN Kedah PRU-13 di Bangunan Tunku di sini, Khamis. Akujanji yang mengandungi tiga teras utama itu menyentuh mengenai hal ehwal agama, transmormasi ekonomi dan transformasi sosial selain memberi tumpuan secara khusus kepada 14 perkara penting. 

Pada sidang media yang sama, Pengerusi BN Kedah, Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah berkata akujanji itu merupakan satu dokumen janji yang lebih jelas untuk pembangunan rakyat dan negeri dalam tempoh lima tahun.

"Kita percaya manifesto yang merangkumi 14 perkara pokok ini dilihat sebagai janji yang lebih jelas mengenai perancangan kita di Kedah," katanya. Katanya lagi, kandungan akujanji yang dibentangkan BN pada pilihan raya kali ini juga merupakan senjata penting untuk mematahkan janj-janji kerajaan negeri pimpinan PAS sedia ada.

Professor Dr Ismail Daut,Timbalan Naib Canselor Penyelidikan dan Inovasi ,Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP) anak seorang penoreh getah dari Abu Bakar Estate, Bukit Selambau dan anak jati Sungai Petani akan turun padang berentap dengan calon PKR seorang jurutera wanita berasal dari Johor dan menetap di Sungai Petani.

Prof Dr Ismail Daut yang saya kenal berasal dari keluarga yang amat miskin tetapi beliau tidak pernah berputus asa untuk memperbaiki hidup keluarganya melalui pendidikan. 

Dasar Pendidikan Kerajaan yang tidak kira latar belakang seseorang penuntut pintar telah membawa beliau belajar hingga ke menara gading, bukan sahaja dalam negera malah hingga ke Universiti tersohor di England. 

Jarang sekali pada zaman itu kita dapat lihat seorang anak penoreh getah berani belajar dalam bidang yang amat sukar iaitu kejuruteraan Elektrik, Elektronik dan Elektromagnetik.

Satu lagi keistimewaan beliau ialah beliau amat fasih bertutur didalam bahasa Tamil, MGR pun kagum dengan kefasihan beliau bertutur didalam bahasa Tamil.

PROFESSOR DR ISMAIL DAUT MERBOK PARLIMENTARY CANDIDATE

Prof. Dr. Ismail Daut is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and the second deputy vice-Chancellor for University Malaysia Perlis. 

He graduated from the University Science Malaysia, with distinction in Applied Science Specialist in Electronic and Industry Technology, received his M.Sc. in Electrical and Electromagnetic Engineering from University of Wales, College of Cardiff, United Kingdom and obtained his PhD in Energy Conservation and Power Engineering at University of Wales, Collage of Cardiff, United Kingdom in 1991. 

He has develop a solution in finding new energy sources anticipating the world energy supply crisis. He is developing a long-term planning in developing solar energy  to solar power stations. 

Prof. Dr. Ismail Daut starts his career as a lecturer in the School of Physics, University Sains Malaysia in 1984. He was a visiting lecturer at University Islam Sumatera Utara, Medan Indonesia in 1991. 

Later join UniMAP as a Dean of the School of Computer and Communication Engineering from 2002 until 2003. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. 

He is among the pioneer responsible for the establishment of the School of Electrical Systems Engineering UniMAP in 2003 and was later appointed as Dean of the School of Electrical Systems Engineering from 2003 to 2010 and at the same time held the position as Head of Cluster for Energy Electrical & Electronics Industrial System. 

He was promoted to Professor in 2007 and became a Deputy-Vice-Chancellor in 2010. Besides extensive experience as a lecturer for 28 years and is also a member of the Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, United Kingdom. (Source UNIMAP)

DATUK MUKHRIZ MAHATHIR THE NEXT KEDAH MB IF BN WINS KEDAH?

ALOR SETAR: Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir is tipped to be the next Mentri Besar if Barisan Nasional wins Kedah. The guessing game of who will be Barisan's choice should end today when the coalition releases its candidate list. Mukhriz, the Jerlun MP, will likely contest the Ayer Hitam state seat, fuelling speculation that he would be the likely MB. 

Barisan Kedah coordinator Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah will name the candidates at Dewan Anak Bukit today. The likely new candidates are Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's political secretary Datuk Sahlan Ismail (Pokok Sena), activist Dr Zaki Zamani Abdul Rashid (Kuala Kedah) and Mubarak Malaysia vice-president Datuk Othman Abdul (Pendang). 

Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who is now a senator, will stand in Jerai while Datuk Suraya Yaacob will contest in Sg Tiang. Long-serving Langkawi MP Datuk Abu Bakar Taib is the only MP to be dropped. Datuk Nawawi Ahmad will contest the Langkawi seat and Langkawi Umno youth chief Norsaidi Nayan will stand the Kuah seat. 

Of the 15 parliamentary seats, Umno is contesting 13 and MCA two. For state seats, Umno will have 28, followed by MCA (four), Gerakan (two) and MIC (two). MCA is fielding new faces in Kota Darul Aman (Alor Setar division secretary Loh Gim Hooi), Bakar Arang (state deputy secretary Dr Lee Yean Wang) and Kulim (coordinator Chua Thiong Gee). Dr Leong Yong Kong will be defending his seat in Gurun.

Gerakan would likely field Sungai Petani assistant secretary Bee Sieong Heng in Sidam while Dr Cheah Soon Hai will defend his Derga seat. Kedah MIC chairman S. Ananthan would likely contest the Lunas state seat while vice-chairman M.L. Maran is expected to be fielded in Bukit Selambau. (The Star)

PRU13 : UMNO KEDAH TAMPIL GANDINGAN MANTAP

ALOR SETAR 16 April - Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom dan seorang doktor muda berusia 35 tahun, Dr. Zaki Zamani Abd. Rashid dikhabarkan antara muka baharu yang akan membawa cabaran Barisan Nasional (BN) Kedah dalam Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU-13), 5 Mei ini. 

Jamil Khir yang juga Ketua Penerangan UMNO Kedah dikatakan akan bertanding di kerusi Parlimen Jerai manakala Dr. Zaki yang merupakan Naib Pengerusi Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS) Kedah berkemungkinan dicalonkan untuk kerusi Kuala Kedah. 

Selain itu, muka-muka baharu yang dijangka diketengahkan BN Kedah pada pilihan raya umum kali ini ialah Ketua Pemuda BN Kedah, Badrol Hisham Hashim di kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Kuala Nerang; Ketua Pemuda UMNO Langkawi, Saidi Nanyan (Kuah); Ketua Pemuda UMNO Kubang Pasu, Aminuddin Omar (DUN Jitra) dan Fadzilah Mohd. Ali di DUN Sungai Limau. 

Beberapa nama dalam kalangan profesional dikatakan turut tersenarai termasuk Dr. Mansor Abd. Rahman di Parlimen Sik dan Prof. Ismail Daut di Merbok. Mereka masing-masing merupakan Timbalan Ketua UMNO Bahagian Sik dan Merbok. 

Setiausaha Politik Perdana Menteri, Datuk Shahlan Ismail di kerusi Parlimen Pokok Sena; Ketua Pemuda UMNO Baling, Mohd. Khairul Azhar Abdulah (DUN Kuala Ketil); Pengerusi Tetap UMNO Bahagian Pokok Sena, Mohktar Mohd. Noor (DUN Bukit Pinang) dan Ketua Penerangan Pemuda UMNO Sungai Petani, Dr. Syamsul Anuar Ismail (Parlimen Sungai Petani). 

Beberapa muka baharu di kalangan wanita juga dijangka membawa cabaran BN Kedah iaitu Ketua Puteri UMNO Bahagian Kulim Bandar Baharu, Nor Sabrina Mohd. Di samping itu, dua penyandang Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) dikatakan dipindahkan bertanding di kawasan Parlimen iaitu penyandang kerusi Pedu, Datuk Seri Mahdzhir Khalid ke Parlimen Padang Terap dan Datuk Ir. Nawawi Ahmad dari DUN Kuah ke Parlimen Langkawi. 

Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir pula dari Parlimen Jerlun ke DUN Ayer Hitam. Beberapa penyandang dijangka mempertahankan kerusi masing-masing termasuk Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md. Hanipah di DUN Bakar Bata; Mohd. Rawi Abd. Hamid (DUN Ayer Hangat); Datuk Abu Hassan Sariff (DUN Kota Siputeh), Datuk Mohd. THE SPIES WHO FOOLED THE WORLD

It's now 10 years since forces led by the United States invaded Iraq and overthrew Saddam Hussein. The reason for the invasion was made clear: Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMD). But it's now accepted there were in fact none. So where did the original "evidence" come from and why was it believed? 

One man who told American and British spy agencies what they wanted to hear was Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, known as 'Curveball'. He claimed that not only did Saddam have WMD, but he'd also constructed mobile germ factories on trucks, creating a potential hell on wheels. In the aftermath of September 11, this testimony became the centrepiece in the case to justify an invasion of Iraq. 

There was just one problem - the story was a fabrication. Al-Janabi was asked about his testimony: "The fact is that we went to war in Iraq on a lie, and that lie was your lie?" He replied: "Yes." 

This week on Four Corners BBC reporter Peter Taylor exposes, with forensic detail, how intelligence services on both sides of the Atlantic ignored information from reputable sources that said Iraq had no WMD. He also describes how, at the same time, the CIA and MI6 cherry-picked intelligence to submit to their political masters that would justify military action. "There was a consistent effort to find key intelligence that supported pre-conceived positions. Very bad intelligence got to the leadership very quickly, but other intelligence just didn't make it." 

 In this hothouse atmosphere, every possible piece of evidence justifying an invasion was highly prized. However, as Taylor explains, the evidence of al-Janabi and another man - Major Mohammad Harith, an Iraqi defector with links to the Iraqi National Congress (INC) - was crucial. Al-Janabi's evidence was considered so important that it was used by former US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, when he addressed the United Nations to argue the need for military action. 

Powell quoted directly from al-Janabi's testimony, using it as evidence that WMD existed. Talking with al-Janabi himself, a key CIA officer and the former head of German Intelligence, Peter Taylor makes a compelling case that not only was al-Janabi lying but that the US had been warned of his lack of credibility. As one former CIA officer explains, he spoke to the Head of the CIA, George Tenet, and told him not to rely on 'Curveball'. 

Tenet told him not to be concerned. Later when al-Janabi was exposed as a fraud, Tenet denied he had been warned at all. The CIA officer tells Taylor: 

"One of us is not telling the whole truth so, I'm quite comfortable with what I have to say." SINGKIR anggota UMNO yang cuba sabotaj calon parti semasa Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU-13). Itulah amaran UMNO. Tentunya parti-parti politik lain termasuk parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN) dan pembangkang mempunyai pendirian yang sama. Cuma sejauh mana keupayaan atau kekuatan parti politik mahu melaksanakannya. 

Ada parti yang begitu 'sayang' dengan anggota berkenaan dan terpaksa 'menyimpannya' kerana pertimbangan politik tertentu. Tetapi secara keseluruhannya, mana-mana parti politik sudah tentu akan menyingkirkan anggota yang tidak setia kepada parti, lebih-lebih lagi sehingga mensabotaj calon pada PRU. Lebih malang jika tindakan sabotaj itu menyebabkan calon parti kalah kepada calon lawan. Banyak faktor yang menyebabkan anggota parti mengambil tindakan sabotaj lebih-lebih lagi menjelang PRU. 

Sabotaj, cah keting atau tendang betis kawan sudah menjadi lumrah politik. Disebabkan tidak dipilih menjadi calon atau calon pilihannya tidak dipilih, maka kesetiaan kepada parti tiba-tiba hilang begitu sahaja. Mereka ini mudah merajuk dan berkecil hati, tidak mempunyai jiwa besar kepada parti. Jika selama ini, seseorang itu bekerja keras untuk memastikan kemenangan parti di kawasannya tetapi disebabkan pemilihan calon tidak kena dengan 'seleranya', mereka sanggup menongkah arus. 

Mereka ini kecewa apabila dirinya atau calon pilihan tidak terpilih. Lebih marah lagi apabila ada calon 'payung terjun'. Bagi orang seperti ini, matlamat sebenar politik bukan untuk parti, bangsa, agama dan negara sebaliknya mahu mengejar kuasa, jawatan, kekayaan dan keuntungan atas nama politik. 

Mereka ini mahu calon pilihan 'naik' untuk kepentingan diri atau kumpulan tertentu. Mereka lupa kepentingan orang lain dan masyarakat. Inilah sikap anggota parti yang hanya mahu 'mencari makan' melalui politik. Mereka tidak peduli soal masa depan, maruah dan integriti parti yang diwakili. Mereka sanggup melakukan apa sahaja demi cita-cita peribadi. Lebih malang lagi apabila sabotaj ini bukan sahaja melibatkan anggota di peringkat akar umbi tetapi juga di peringkat pemimpin. 

Pemimpin melakukan sabotaj dengan menggunakan 'tangan-tangan' tersembunyi untuk memberi tekanan kepada kepimpinan parti. Menjelang PRU ini, tidak dinafikan ada yang sanggup melakukan pelbagai tindakan semata-mata mahu menunjukkan pengundi masih memerlukannya sebagai wakil rakyat di kawasan berkenaan. Memorandum, kempen tanda tangan, petisyen dan sebagainya dihantar kepada pemimpin untuk menarik perhatian. 

Justeru BN sama ada UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP dan sebagainya perlu berani bertindak. Itu pun jika pemimpin masih mahu bercakap mengenai model politik yang mengutamakan integriti. Tetapi adakah parti politik perlu menunggu sehingga selesai PRU untuk mengambil tindakan? Mungkin jika calon yang disabotaj masih menang, perasaan marah parti boleh terubat tetapi bagaimana jika calon itu kalah? Bak kata orang ketika itu nasi sudah menjadi bubur! Kekalahan yang berlaku akan merosakkan segala-galanya. 

Memang sukar untuk mengenal pasti anggota parti yang akan bertindak mensabotaj parti menjelang PRU. Mereka ini ibarat musuh dalam selimut, api dalam sekam, gunting dalam lipatan atau musang berbulu ayam yang akan bergerak tanpa disedari oleh pimpinan parti. Mereka ini tiba-tiba 'menikam dari belakang'. Inilah yang ditakuti oleh mana-mana parti politik menjelang PRU. Sukar juga untuk mencari pemimpin atau anggota parti yang secara sukarela mengisytiharkan dirinya sebagai gunting dalam lipatan atau musang berbulu ayam. 

Siapa sangka, anggota parti yang sudah berpuluh tahun bersama, mendapat nikmat yang tidak terhingga semasa berjuang dalam parti atau parti mempertahankannya serba sedikit akibat 'kepincangan' yang dilakukannya selama dalam parti atau kerajaan akhirnya melangkah keluar. Disebabkan kecewa atau merajuk dalam satu dua perkara, 'bunga' yang selama ini dianggapnya harum semerbak bertukar menjadi 'busuk yang teramat busuk'. 

Tetapi tindakan mereka meninggalkan parti menjelang PRU adalah lebih baik dan bermaruah (walaupun sebenarnya tidak ada maruah politik) daripada menunggu sehingga saat-saat akhir PRU akan diadakan. Maka eloklah berundur sebelum terjebak melakukan pengkhianatan terhadap parti yang diwakili. Pada masa yang sama, jika sekalipun disedari ada anggota yang cuba sabotaj, agak sukar bagi pimpinan parti untuk mengambil tindakan terhadap orang seperti ini kerana dibimbangi akan memberi kesan yang lebih besar menjelang PRU. 

Mahu tidak mahu mereka yang dikenal pasti sebagai orang yang bertanggungjawab melakukan sabotaj akan disimpan dahulu dan dikenakan tindakan selepas berakhirnya PRU. Sama ada calon yang diturunkan parti itu menang atau kalah, pihak yang melakukan sabotaj perlu dihukum. Tiada maaf dan tiada kompromi bagi mereka! Namun sebelum berlaku sabotaj, beberapa perkara perlu diberi perhatian. 

Kenapa sabotaj atau cah keting berlaku? Seperti disebut pada awal tulisan ini, antara puncanya ialah kerana merajuk disebabkan tidak dipilih sebagai calon atau calon bukan pilihan kumpulan tertentu. Menjelang PRU, pemimpin parti sudah beberapa kali menyatakan kriteria calon untuk dipilih. 

Harus diingat, jawatan di peringkat bahagian bukan lesen mutlak untuk melayakkan mereka dipilih sebagai calon. Maka bersedialah untuk menerima keputusan pucuk pimpinan parti walaupun selama ini mereka sudah bekerja keras, banyak masa dan duit dihabiskan. Sabotaj juga berlaku disebabkan rasa tidak puas hati terhadap pemimpin yang gagal menyelaraskan pelbagai aktiviti menjelang PRU. 

Sesuatu yang sering didengar ialah mengenai peruntukan menghadapi kempen PRU yang tidak sampai ke bawah. Akhirnya berlakulah sabotaj seperti tidak menampal poster, menutup bilik gerakan, tidak mengatur ceramah kempen dan macam-macam lagi. Hakikatnya, sabotaj bukan sekadar berlaku kerana tidak dipilih sebagai calon. Masih ada faktor lain yang mempengaruhi tindakan sabotaj ini. 

Akhirnya, kemenangan calon bergantung kepada sejauh mana kesetiaan seseorang anggota parti sama ada ia bertaraf pemimpin atau anggota di peringkat akar umbi. Tanpa kesetiaan dalam perjuangan, maka seribu satu kemungkinan akan berlaku. Bagi UMNO, slogan Bersatu, Bersetia, Berkhidmat perlu dijadikan pegangan anggotanya. Mereka harus bersatu, setia dan berkhidmat kepada parti dalam apa keadaan sekali pun. Maka terimalah sebarang keputusan pucuk pimpinan parti dalam menentukan siapa yang dianggap calon boleh menang untuk menghadapi PRU yang dianggap sukar ini. 

Mungkin elok diamati kenyataan Pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO Kedah, Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah semalam mengenai kesediaannya menerima keputusan pucuk pimpinan parti sekiranya tidak dipilih sebagai calon PRU. Mungkin ramai lagi ketua bahagian atau pengerusi perhubungan yang senada dengannya. 

Menurut Ahmad Bashah, beliau tidak akan terkilan jika tidak dipilih semula setelah empat penggal menjadi wakil rakyat kawasan Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Bakar Bata. "Ini pengakuan ikhlas saya. Yang penting kita jangan khianati parti dan pucuk pimpinan. Jika tidak terpilih, saya pasrah dan rela," katanya. 

Inilah semangat yang perlu ada kepada setiap anggota parti yang bercita-cita besar untuk menjadi calon PRU akan datang.

DAP POLITICAL STRATEGIST SAYS DAP HAS LOST A MAJOR SEGMENT OF INDIAN VOTES (PART 2)

The concluding part of the DAP Insider Exclusive Interview with a DAP Political Strategist, also known as Oracle about the status of the Indian votes for and support for the DAP 

 DAP Insider: “What then can be done or should not be done to further alienate the Indians from PR and DAP?” 

Oracle: “Firstly, don’t insult the Indians. DAP leaders keep harping it doesn’t need the Indian votes to capture Putrajaya and they humiliate the Indians by not voting in a fair number of Indian leaders into the DAP CEC. I ask a simple question to the DAP – would you vote for someone who keeps running you down, humiliate you or someone who come forward to help you? 

There are 15,000 Indians in DAP and a majority of them tell me that if the DAP value the Indian votes then do something about it. This is the moment of truth but the DAP leaders and supporters squandered the opportunity in the CEC elections and showed their true racist colours for all to see. That is why recently there are so many protests against the DAP by Indian branch leaders in the DAP – all disenchanted and demand for fresh CEC election due to the irregularities. 

I have advised Kit Siang and Guan Eng to hold fresh CEC elections and accede to some of the demands by the Indians. But they are stubborn and so far refused to budge. In a way, DAP and its supporters are digging their own grave creating so much animosity with the Indians and they may see payback in GE13. 

Many Indians have been warning Pakatan and DAP that it has failed to address many issues faced by the community since the last election. As such many Indians warned Pakatan that support would dip. But no one in Pakatan or DAP listened. And even if when DAP appears to listen, the leaders make comments that are patronising to say the least and it further drives the Indians away. 

The PR and DAP cybertroopers are also no help as they are worse than patronising and they actually belittle the Indians and their value. These cybertroopers often vilify Indian as “racist” by the supposed multicultural alliance of PR and their supporters. DAP has never held any “high level” talks with P Waythamoorthy and Hindraf.

Instead, DAP these days accuses Hindraf of exactly the same thing Umno accused them of being – a “racist” organisation hell bent on destabilizing the status quo. Hindraf under P.Uthayakumar and the Human Rights Party’s rhetoric concerning the DAP did not help matters either. 

Waythamoorthy’s “different approach” has Pakatan kool-aid drinkers painting the relationship between the brothers as some sort of Remus and Romulus retelling but as always nobody wants to acknowledge that different approaches to communal problems have always been the reality here in Malaysia. 

In the partisan alternative press, some kudos is thrown Waythamoorthy’s way but still condescending and Uthayakumar has to suffer the further indignity of the accusations of being a BN turncoat, when he is currently facing sedition charges and battling a system predicated on exacting its pound of flesh for imagined slights. 

Where are all the DAP lawyers and Karpal Singh and gang in all these? Have they even offered to help? NONE. Instead, Uthayakumar is mocked as stubborn, arrogant and unyielding but the truth is this is exactly what the disenfranchised of the Indian community needs after decades of Umno-BN. Not the Indians are pissed off with DAP and PR as well. 

I have argued that the Human Rights Party is the perfect pressure group – vocal and uncompromising – but Hindraf could act as the bridge that links the polemics of Human Rights Party and the reforms needed, that can only be achieved by working with groups of power. The reality is that only Hindraf and the Human Rights Party (in its role as a pressure group) is capable of galvanising the marginalised Indian community into forming a cohesive force so they would be a formidable participant in the political process.

 Honestly, the pro-Pakatan Indraf (Indian Rights Action Force) was an embarrassment that painted the alternative alliance efforts in wooing the Indian vote as a shoddy afterthought and was a great disservice to the people who marched on that fateful day (for various reasons) under the Hindraf banner. But at the same time, Hindraf itself is also to blame for not being cognisant of the change of terrain in the battlefield in the coming Umno-Anwar showdown for the future of this country. 

Hindraf may have given voice to these concerns but BN has been quietly reaping the benefits of the resultant fallout. Something is better than nothing, they claim, and the old game of BN is better than the so-called new one of Pakatan. The more Hindraf is marginalised and painted as a racist group by Pakatan and the DAP, the more apathy sets in a certain section of the disenfranchised section of the Indian community. 

For the crypto-racists within Pakatan and DAP who have always been contemptuous of the Indian community, this is not a problem until they lose a seat and blame the loss on the Indian community. The wonderful aspect of free speech on the Internet is that under the cover of anonymity the Indian community (like everyone else) can be bashed with impunity. 

What I get from the rhetoric emanating from Pakatan and its kool-aid drinkers (a distinction should be made between them and the true believers) is that multiculturalism / multiracialism means the inclusion of cultural identities for everyone, except the Indians.

The championing of communal rights for the other two races in this country conveniently escapes the all-encompassing multicultural rights (sic) rhetoric whereas Hindraf’s “demands” are supposedly anathema because they follow the racial formula of the BN. 

An example of this dissonance can be observed in PKR’s Tian Chua who said that Pakatan’s support for Indian Malaysian issues are not contingent on Hindraf support. This was echoed by Liew Chin Tong from the DAP – he himself a political strategist but certainly a myopic one as far as this issue is concerned. 

Never mind the fact that the only time Indian issues get play is when Hindraf (and the Human Rights party) scream their heads off. Why wouldn’t you want to reassure the only credible Indian rights group in this country that their support is needed? 

The DAP keeps chasing the Chinese educationist groups, Chinese commerce groups and Chinese/ Christian evangelical groups, just to name a few. Of course, the argument here is that said groups are merely fighting for their “rights” as enshrined in the constitution whereas Hindraf advocates a quota system. 

PKR may claim to be committed to Indian issues but you can bet your bottom ringgit that if Hindraf and the Indian community stood side by side, Tian Chua would not be so cavalier in dismissing this rights group when his allies and he go chasing after every “other” rights or pressure groups out there. 

Moreover, Tian Chua, spare me “we are not there to exchange political favours” spiel. Only a complete moron would believe that Pakatan is immune from the reality of the political process where horse trading, political favours and all the other necessary evils of achieving and maintaining political power is practiced. 

This of course is a question of degrees and while we abhor the blatant and criminal way Umno has been doing this all these years, I would like to believe that most Pakatan and DAP supporters are not blind to the reality that Pakatan would have to do this to remain in power if it ever sits on the Putrajaya throne. 

Never mind that the Malay-Muslim community is constantly reminded that a “need-based” affirmative action policy would see their “rights” secure and the DAP being Chinese dominated is an extremely influential voice in the alliance which means that Chinese “rights” would be taken care off. This leaves the Indians in the position of having no choice but to buy into the whole multiracial / cultural idea in the hope that the rhetoric translates into action. 

It is extremely difficult to make the argument that you are an alliance committed to the ideals of egalitarianism and/or multiculturalism when your rhetoric and strategies relies on claiming the racial roles created by Umno under the guise of an all-inclusive alliance. 

At the end of the day, as a supporter of Pakatan and DAP, I believe that Pakatan and DAP should acknowledge Hindraf and the Human Rights Party as the only game in town when it comes to the issue of Indian communal interest. These two rights groups are the only sociopolitical entities which have a genuine commitment to the plight of the disenfranchised and if Pakatan and DAP is sincere in their commitment to the Indian community, they would harness the potential of these groups as a means of drawing the disenfranchised section of the Indian community into the mainstream. 

At the same time, Hindraf and the Human Rights Party have to drop their extremely polemical discourse and their own role in exacerbating the culture conflict within the Indian community and realise that just as Pakatan has to make compromises, so would they. 

As long as the compromises they make serve some utilitarian value that favours the Indian community even at the expense of the principal, well that is the hard cold reality of politics especially racial politics anywhere in the world.”

PAS 'PARTI AJARAN SESAT' - PENASIHAT MINDA PONDOK

GURUN - Pondok Minda, gabungan 25 pondok pengajian agama di Kelantan, mengulangi bahawa Pas adalah parti ajaran sesat dan semua fatwa dikeluarkan Mursyidul Amnya, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat wajib ditolak. 

Penasihat Pondok Minda yang juga pengasas Pondok Geting, Tumpat, Kelantan, Tok Guru Abdullah Sa’amah berkata, Pas sebuah parti yang dibentuk oleh manusia untuk menegakkan Islam tetapi telah menyeleweng dan menyimpang jauh daripada ajaran Islam. 

Sambil menyifatkan Nik Abdul Aziz sombong, takbur dan angkuh dengan fatwa-fatwanya yang didakwa syirik dan menyesatkan, beliau berkata: “Saya kata Pas ‘Parti Ajaran Sesat’ kerana Nik Aziz dakwa Pas itulah Islam sedangkan Islam diturunkan oleh Allah SWT yang diajar kepada Nabi Muhammad SAW. 

“Ini bukan fatwa kami tetapi keputusan hasil rumusan setelah merujuk kitab-kitab muktabar, tafsir al-Quran, hadis dan hukum-hakam,” kata Abdullah pada sidang akhbar di sini, hari ini. 

Beliau ditemui selepas Persidangan Ulama-Ulama bersama Kepimpinan Pondok, Sekolah Agama Rakyat/Tahfiz Al-Quran 2013 peringkat kebangsaan di sini yang dihadiri 150 orang bermula Sabtu lepas. 

Katanya, perbuatan Nik Aziz mengkafirkan UMNO dan penentang Pas, membenarkan penggunaan kalimah Allah oleh bukan Islam dan menyokong pluralisme merupakan kesalahan cukup besar beliau. - BERNAMA

NOR AZRINA CALUN PKR PARLIMEN MERBOK

Teka-teki siapa bakal calon PKR bagi kerusi Parlimen Merbok setelah penyandangnya, Datuk Rashid Din mengundur diri terjawab apabila Ketua Umum Pakatan Rakyat, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim membuat pengumuman itu semalam. 

Dalam pengumuman dibuat oleh Anwar di hadapan kira-kira 10,000 penyokong pada satu ceramah di Bandar Laguna Merbok, beliau berkata, Ketua Wanita PKR Cabang Sungai Petani, Nor Azrina@Nurin Aina Abdullah Surip telah dipilih sebagai calon kawasan itu. 

Nor Azrina yang juga Ahli Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani Kedah kini berusia 38 tahun.

A DAP Insider Exclusive Interview with a DAP Political Strategist, also known as Oracle about the status of the Indian votes for and support for the DAP 

DAP Insider: “Good to see you again Oracle – do you still want to remain anonymous or are you now prepared to reveal yourself and go public…?"

DAP Political Strategist also known as (aka) Oracle: “Still cannot reveal myself yet – the competition between the political strategists in the DAP has become very keen and almost vicious because a number of them have been dropped as the leaders have lost confidence in them. Some have been suspected as moles and Trojan horses planted by the BN and so the leaders have decided to steer clear of them and not take the risk. Still some others have resorted to dirty tactics to smear my name but because of my professionalism and good work, I continue to have the ears of the leadership…but I am also aware that I serve at their pleasure.” 

DAP Insider: “There is a very recent survey conducted by Pakatan Rakyat grassroots workers that revealed that Indian support for Pakatan Rakyat has dipped below 50% from a high of 80% achieved in GE12 in 2008. What happened?” 

Oracle: “First off, PM Najib has focused much of his efforts on the Indian community and they now can reach him directly instead of through the MIC or PPP. There is direct intervention by the Prime Minister himself and this has yielded dividends for the BN and increased confidence in the Indian community that PM is listening to them and acting to resolve their problems. 

Granted that the Indians were degraded by the Malay government by crippling their education, job opportunities and welfare, with the help of their own community leaders but the Chinese never did any better. The Chinese had never supported the Indians at any time.

The Chinese were opportunists, they only use the Indians for their hard work with low wages. Even after getting overwhelming support in 2008, Pakatan Rakyat has failed to do much for the Indians. 

The DAP is even worse – there is no real concrete program to uplift the Indians form their plight. Ramasamy claims he is an expert on Indian affairs but I have yet to see any blueprint from him or the DAP Indian politicians to transform the Indian community in Malaysia from all aspects.

We also have Chong Eng and Hannah Yeoh – both Chinese women who married Indian men but they did nothing as well. The unkindest cut of all – Hannah Yeoh tried her stunt with the “Anak Malaysia” thing to register her daughter’s birth but ended up choosing to state that her daughter is Chinese instead of Indian. 

What a great hypocrisy and insult to the Indian man who is her husband. It only shows that she is so ashamed of her husband’s race that she kept her more superior race. Yes, even though she tried to explain that she just accepted what was typed in by the counter clerk at the registration office but really – would the counter clerk do such a thing and take such liberty without reference to her? And even if she did, then why did Hannah Yeoh NOT OBJECT to such an insertion of Chinese as the race of her daughter? 

See, the Indians are not stupid and blind – they see this and they know and recognize it as racism and they vote with their feet. And then from the above list, not a single one from the above is able to come up with some concrete and sustainable plans and programs for the betterment of the Indians in Malaysia. 

It is so pathetic… Indians know whichever side they take is not going to be a turning point. They have learnt the skill to hang on the fence. Indians are survivors being moulded by both the Malays and the Chinese. 

They know what to do when the time comes! And they only believe what they see and can get – promises are no use unless they are fulfilled.That is why BN’s “Janji Ditepati” campaign has great traction amongst Indians. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Also the Waythamoorthy factor – he came back but he did not join Pakatan and he did not join DAP. Most Indians in Malaysia respect Waythamoorthy and would want him to represent them but the question remain why till now no one from Pakatan or DAP has engaged him and so it gives the perception that nobody in PR or DAP is truly interested in the Indians. But suddenly PM Najib says Hindraf is no longer banned and he wants to meet and discuss with Waythamoorthy. Najib has now seized the initiative and truly we have lost the opportunity as it is too late now for PR or DAP. We wasted 5 years of time. 

Despite all the rhetoric form DAP and PR and despite all the years of living in Malaysia, most of the leaders from the DAP have truly failed to understand the mentality of Indians. They keep thinking at the same angle the hypocrites from PKR and DAP but Indians are not idiots and they know what is good for them. They hate hypocrisy and racist mentality of the Chinese in DAP and sadly this is true."

CALUN PAYUNG TERJUN AKAN 'DISEMBELIH' HIDUP-HIDUP

SELEPAS Parlimen dan Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) dibubarkan, kini masyarakat ghairah memperkatakan pula tentang calon. 

Siapakah yang akan dicalonkan bagi kerusi Parlimen dan siapa ke DUN atau kedua-duanya. Itulah yang hangat dibual dan dianalisis.

Selagi senarai penuh nama calon yang akan bertanding dalam Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU-13) belum diumumkan, selagi itulah masyarakat akan bermain teka-teki. Bagi parti pakatan pembangkang seperti PKR, DAP dan Pas mungkin tidak sukar mencari calon-calon untuk diketengahkan. 

Sesiapa pun boleh menjadi calonnya. Sepanjang lima tahun lalu, kita sudah melihat prestasi wakil-wakil rakyat pakatan pembangkang. Baik yang mempunyai kelayakan akademik yang tinggi menggunung ataupun sekadar orang biasa, mereka gagal menunjukkan perkhidmatan sebagaimana yang diharapkan oleh pengundi. 

Sebab itu soal calon daripada pakatan pembangkang kurang mendapat perhatian berbanding dengan kehangatan membicarakan siapa yang bakal menjadi calon Barisan Nasional (BN). Yang menjadi masalah dan isu besar setiap kali PRU ialah mencari calon-calon untuk mewakili BN. 

Parti yang menjadi tulang belakang Kerajaan Persekutuan sejak merdeka ini mempunyai calon-calon yang sudah dipupuk dan dibina ciri-ciri kepemimpinannya. Sebab itu semua pihak yang berjawatan dalam parti UMNO mahupun parti komponen BN yang lain berasakan mereka layak menjadi calon. 

Sekarang BN kena mencari 727 nama calon. Biasanya BN mengetengahkan seorang sahaja calon untuk satu kerusi sama ada Parlimen atau DUN. Tidak menjadi amalan BN seperti pakatan pembangkang yang meletakkan seorang calon bertanding untuk dua kerusi sekali gus. 

Penegasan Pengerusi Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak akan ada kejutan dalam pemilihan calon dan pengagihan 222 kerusi Parlimen dan 505 kerusi DUN, mendorong semangat sesetengah pihak untuk terus melobi. 

Ada yang sanggup hantar wakil atau diri sendiri terbang ke Kuala Lumpur untuk bertemu Najib setelah mengetahui nama mereka ‘tercicir’ daripada senarai calon. Ada yang marah-marah mendakwa mereka sudah banyak berkorban, jadi apa salah kali ini mereka diberikan peluang. Ada juga pemimpin rela melepas satu kerusi DUN yang diperuntukkan kepadanya asalkan dipertimbangkan untuk kerusi Parlimen. Ada juga kumpulan yang sedikit hampa apabila permintaan untuk mengetengahkan wakil mereka sebagai calon dicantas oleh pemimpin negeri. 

Cerita bahagian-bahagian yang awal-awal lagi sudah memberitahu mereka akan menolak calon payung terjun menghangatkan senario menjelang pengumuman senarai nama calon yang bertanding PRU-13. Sebab itu ada bahagian yang secara terbuka memberitahu mereka hanya dapat memastikan semua bilik gerakan parti akan dibuka, tetapi tidak menjamin kaum majoriti di kawasannya akan keluar mengundi calon payung terjun itu. Maknanya kumpulan pemimpin kecewa ini awal-awal lagi ‘mengancam’ bahawa mereka tidak akan bekerja keras untuk memastikan kemenangan calon payung terjun parti. 

Suasana kurang enak ini berlaku kerana faktor kaum walaupun calon itu daripada parti komponen BN. Alasan mereka, selepas menang bertanding, biasanya calon daripada kaum lain itu kurang memberi perhatian dalam aspek kebajikan serta pembangunan sosio ekonomi dan politik majoriti penduduk kawasan berkenaan. 

Jadi atas nama ‘keadilan’ mereka menuntut kerusi itu diberikan kepada kaum majoriti kawasan berkenaan. Sesungguhnya masalah agihan kerusi mengikut kaum turut berlaku dalam pakatan pembangkang. Hal ini adalah lumrah. Ada juga calon berkelulusan tinggi dan berjawatan hebat tetapi apabila dinilai dari segi perkhidmatan kepada masyarakat, amat mengecewakan. Hal ini lebih tertera pada wakil rakyat pembangkang. Mereka hanya mahukan kuasa politik. Sebab itu budaya berpindah dan lompat ke kawasan lain menjadi amalan mereka. 

Hakikat yang patut disedari oleh beribu-ribu pemimpin parti peringkat negeri, bahagian dan cawangan komponen BN ialah cuma ada 222 kerusi Parlimen dan 505 DUN sahaja. Bermakna hanya 727 calon akan dipilih untuk bertanding daripada jumlah besar yang layak menjadi calon. Kemuncak penglibatan seseorang ahli politik bukanlah semata-mata mendapatkan gelaran Yang Berhormat kerana ada banyak lagi saluran jika ingin berbakti kepada masyarakat. 

Kadang-kadang pelik melihat perangai pemimpin politik yang ghairah mahu menjadi calon. Tak tahulah jika ada ‘habuan’ yang lebih besar apabila dipilih menjadi wakil rakyat. Ingatlah, jika pemimpin tidak terpilih sebagai calon, tetapi terus berusaha membantu memastikan kemenangan calon partinya, mereka pun boleh dilantik sebagai Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran atau Daerah kalau tidak berpeluang diangkat menjadi Senator.

 Sebenarnya banyak lagi jawatan lain yang tersedia asalkan mereka memastikan kemenangan parti hingga berjaya membentuk Kerajaan Persekutuan dan kerajaan negeri. Inilah misi utama kenapa mereka perlu mengutamakan kemenangan parti dalam PRU-13. Gagal menjadi calon PRU kali ini bukan bermakna tertutup sudah pintu untuk pemimpin menabur khidmat bakti kepada masyarakat. Jika itulah matlamat mereka!
