PADANG BESAR: A slip of the tongue by former Selangor mentri besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib, who joined PAS last week, drew laughter at a ceramah when he urged the people to vote for Barisan Nasional.
Muhammad momentarily forgot that he was no longer with the coalition and inadvertently blurted out to a 400-strong crowd on Monday:
"Sila sokong calon Barisan Nasional. (Please support Barisan candidates.)"
Pakatan Rakyat supporters immediately broke out in laughter, causing Muhammad to pause as he realised his mistake.
He then smiled and apologised.
"Please forgive, it's just my seventh day in PAS," he said to applause.
"I hope no one will take my video and edit before uploading it on the Internet, as if I'm still supporting Barisan," he added.
He claimed the incumbent Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim made a similar mistake in 2007 and the blooper was aired during the news on TV3.
Muhammad, a former Umno vice-president, was mentri besar from 1986 to 1997.
Also present at the 45-minute ceramah organised by PAS in Kampung Paya here were party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Santan state seat candidate Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir.
